Ashley Dacek: Finding Her Voice and Creating Her Own Path in Film

Avatar

For Cleveland-born actress and screenwriter Ashley Dacek, pursuing a career in entertainment has been a journey of personal growth, creative discovery, and determination. Over the past decade, Ashley has gained experience on major film productions and independent projects while gradually expanding her career beyond acting into screenwriting and voice work. What began with background roles has developed into an opportunity to explore different aspects of storytelling, build meaningful industry connections, and discover a confidence she once struggled to find.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Ashley is the youngest of four children. Before entering the entertainment industry, she attended Cleveland State University, where she earned a double major in History and Classical/Medieval Studies. Her academic background preceded a career that would eventually lead her onto film sets and into the creative world of filmmaking.

Ashley began her on-screen career as a background performer, making her debut in the Any Given Wednesday music video Cleveland’s Best Summer. She later gained additional experience through appearances as an extra in The Simple Path, The Damned Thing, Cassidy King’s music video Professional Smiler, A Man Called Otto, Eenie Meanie, and Superman.

Working across productions of different sizes has given Ashley an appreciation for the people and preparation involved in bringing a story to the screen. While background acting often requires long hours and patience, she has found the experience rewarding, particularly when working on projects filmed in her hometown.

Beyond the Camera: Ashley Dacek’s Passion for Acting

For Ashley, acting has become much more than a professional pursuit. It has also played an important role in helping her overcome personal challenges and develop greater confidence.

“It’s a place where I can truly be myself. It’s a passion that I enjoy pursuing, and I will keep going until I decide to stop,” Ashley shared.

Reflecting on how the experience has changed her, she explained, “This journey has also helped me grow personally. When I was young, I was always a shy person. Acting has helped me overcome that shyness and build confidence in myself. It has also taught me a bit of patience, which I usually don’t have.”

Her appreciation for acting extends to the atmosphere of a working film set, where she enjoys observing how different departments collaborate to turn a script into a finished production.

“Usually, being on set excites me. No matter the project, it’s always interesting to see how the cast and crew bring a project to life. Yes, for actors, it requires patience to wait for long hours, but at the same time, you get to be part of the experience and witness the magic unfold.”

Although she has worked on larger productions, Ashley has a particular appreciation for independent filmmaking in Cleveland, where she has witnessed different directors bring their creative ideas to life.

“Aside from major films, local projects filmed in my hometown of Cleveland, OH, tend to be more interesting. After working on previous projects, directors often have different creative ideas that they bring to life. When all is said and done, I feel grateful to be included in these projects.”

Ashley also recognizes the importance of developing professional relationships within the entertainment industry. Whether meeting fellow performers on set, attending acting classes, or participating in industry events, she considers networking an essential part of building a career.

“Networking is also important, whether it’s meeting actors on set, attending classes, or participating in mixers. You create connections and become part of a community.”

A Decade of Experience and New Opportunities

After ten years of pursuing acting, Ashley has reached another stage in her career. Earlier in 2026, she signed with NexGen Talent, marking an important professional development as she continues transitioning from background work into more varied acting opportunities.

“I’ve been acting for 10 years, and it’s nice to go from being a background actor to being cast in different roles,” she shared.

Her growing experience has also given her a realistic understanding of the work required to complete a production. While audiences typically see the finished film, Ashley has witnessed the preparation, teamwork, and challenges that take place behind the scenes.

“I think it’s the whole process in general. I would explain it to coworkers or close friends because they often assume it’s smooth sailing. It takes a village to complete a project. There are ups and downs throughout the process of making a film. You need the right people who are willing to show up, put in the work, and see the project through from start to finish.”

That perspective has helped shape her appreciation for filmmaking as a collaborative profession, where everyone involved contributes to the final result.

While Ashley has occasionally taken breaks from acting, she continues seeking new opportunities. Among her upcoming projects is a small role in the film Demon Hunters, adding another credit to her developing career.

Her interest in the industry has also encouraged her to explore voice acting and screenwriting, allowing her to develop skills beyond performing on camera.

Exploring Screenwriting and Finding Her Creative Voice

As Ashley continues building her acting career, screenwriting has become another meaningful creative outlet. Her interest in writing dates back to college, when she took a screenwriting course and gained early experience developing material alongside other writers.

“When I was in college, I took only one screenwriting course. I remember writing a scene for a commercial at the time, and I collaborated with other writers on the project,” Ashley recalled.

Since then, she has continued developing her writing skills independently, completing several screenplays and submitting her work to film festivals.

Some of those submissions have received selections, nominations, and awards, providing encouragement as she continues exploring storytelling from a writer’s perspective.

However, Ashley’s motivation goes beyond collecting accolades. For her, the opportunity to share her work and connect with audiences and other creatives holds greater significance.

“Winning prizes sounds nice, but to me, it’s about exposure. Submitting my work to festivals and sharing it with others is what matters most.”

Screenwriting has also become a deeply personal experience, giving Ashley an opportunity to transform her thoughts and life experiences into stories.

“Screenwriting is also like therapy to me because I take personal experiences and bring them to life through my writing. There are times when I have ideas in my head, and once I outline and write the script, the ideas begin to pour out.”

Her approach to writing reflects the same qualities that have guided her acting journey: curiosity, persistence, and an interest in exploring new creative possibilities.

With a decade of on-set experience, new representation, and a growing interest in writing and voice acting, Ashley is continuing to shape a career that reflects her individual interests and ambitions.

Rather than focusing solely on where her career might lead, she values the experiences, relationships, and personal development that have come from pursuing something she genuinely enjoys.

For Ashley Dacek, the opportunity to keep learning, creating, and participating in the filmmaking process remains an important part of the journey.
