Q & A with Michael Wakefield

What have you learned from your journey in the film industry that you didn’t know from the start?

Michael Wakefield: I learned that it’s not as easy as people may think. You don’t just show up and smile for a camera. Research, studying, memorization, repetition, patience, and professionalism are all vital in positioning yourself for success in the industry. Similar to other professions I’ve been blessed to be a part of as a professional athlete and/or a coach, it requires time and commitment toward preparations to perfect your craft by always staying ready and being sharp.
Wakefield’s answer to his experience as an athlete and coach clearly informs his approach to the film industry, emphasizing the importance of hard work, discipline, and continuous improvement.
Recent Projects: Education, Inspiration, and Fashion
What are some projects you’ve recently worked on?

Michael Wakefield: I recently worked on a few shorts for “Generation Hope” as far as film is concerned. These projects were unique because they helped educate and inspire our society towards becoming the best human beings we can possibly be. Most of the projects I’ve done as of late have been commercials, in health care, shoe brands, banking, vehicle, and hardware sales. I also had a couple of print job opportunities to display my fashion for a couple of department stores.

Pilot season is coming up! What would be your ideal TV series to be cast in?

Michael Wakefield: Great question! I could see myself as a part of a show similar to CW’s All American. With me having the experience of both playing football at all levels as well as coaching it, the transition to relating to a character would be seamless for me. I also appreciate the value of the messages the show provides to the audience.
On a side note: I’m a huge fan of the Power series. It gives a different perspective on how your upbringing can drive decision-making and shows how surviving is about utilizing your environment to get ahead by gaining leverage. Even though the message may not come across as ideal, it gives a real perspective to inner-city struggles to those of us who grew up in tough neighborhoods and had to find ways to survive. My personal outlet was sports, but many peers close to me took a different direction similar to the scenarios the show provides.
