“I start by reading the entire script straight through to understand the full story. Then I reread my part dozens of times. At first, it’s just dialogue, then actions, and eventually deeper character work. I develop the backstory, compare the character to my own life, and figure out what’s similar or different so I can fully step into that role.”

While audiences may recognize him for his dramatic range, Joseph possesses a variety of unexpected skills that reflect a diverse history of training and personal interests, including a fluent command of the German language.
“I’m fluent in German, I worked for a German company and trained in Germany. I can also ride a unicycle, which I’ve done in parades. I can’t juggle, but I can ride a unicycle pretty well.”

“Letting go takes time. I become very emotionally connected to my characters, so it can take weeks, sometimes even a month to fully release that energy. It’s sometimes emotionally and physically draining, but eventually I move on to the next project, the next character, and a completely different set of emotions.”
