When asked about what drew him to Epic REDD Recordz, Mitch Alcala shared that the film’s supernatural elements mixed with intense psychological drama were key factors. “I like the supernatural story, and how it blends with drama and suspense,” he said. “But what really intrigued me was the chance to play a cop—a cop who’s fighting his own demons.” Mitch’s character, Detective Smith, is not the typical hero one might expect. He is a seasoned investigator struggling with his own inner darkness. He may try to uphold justice, but his personal battles with addiction and guilt make him a deeply flawed yet fascinating character.

Mitch Alcala’s preparation for the role involved drawing inspiration from complex characters like Mark Wahlberg’s portrayal in Training Day. “I got a lot of inspiration from characters like Mark Wahlberg in Training Day,” Alcala revealed. “Characters who are on the edge, trying to do right but constantly battling their own impulses.” This inspiration helped him shape a character that walks a tightrope between righteousness and self-destruction, a man who is deeply aware of his imperfections, but still driven by a desire for justice.

Extensive Stunt Training

One of the most challenging aspects of portraying Detective Smith was the level of improvisation and physicality required by the role. Mitch had to undergo extensive stunt training and embrace moments of unplanned action during filming. “The challenging part was doing a lot of improvising and stunts,” he said. “There were moments where I had to react in the moment, which was both exhilarating and difficult.”
