Star Spotlight: Emerging Actress Katricia Coco Kariuki Wins Multiple Awards Leading in “Lunchtime” Best Dark Comedy Short Film

Avatar

Rising actress Katricia Coco Kariuki is quickly becoming a name to watch in the Hollywood film industry. With a recent Best Actress award for a previous film project and a starring role in another award-winning short film, “Lunchtime,” Katricia is already making a significant buzz among audiences and industry pros. Read further as we have the latest news on her recent project, “Lunchtime.”

“Lunchtime”: A Dark Comedy Taking Film Festivals By Storm!

“Lunchtime,” the short film leading with Actress Katricia Coco Kariuki. The film is directed by Jaymes Camery, who recently won the Best Dark Comedy Short award at the Crown Wood International Film Festival.

The film’s success continued at the Makizhmithran International Film Festival, where “Lunchtime” secured the Best Micro Short Film award. More impressively, Katricia walked away with both Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress awards for her compelling performance. The film also won at the Kodaikanal International Film Festival, winning Best Micro Short Film.  Katricia’s exceptional talent was further acknowledged at the TAMIZHAGAM INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, where she received another Best Actress award, alongside the film’s Best Micro Short Film win. Finally, “Lunchtime” received the Special Jury Award and Best Micro Short Film recognition at the Kollywood International Film Festival!

Katricia Coco Kariuki Leads as Angela in “Lunchtime.”

In “Lunchtime,” Katricia Coco Kariuki stars as the character of Angela. The film is described as a raw and intense exploration of corporate rivalry. It plunges into the cutthroat world where ambition and pride collide and explores ambition, pride, and the explosive consequences of unrestrained conflict when years of tension between two coworkers boil over after a failed deal. As their words become weapons, old resentments and hidden secrets come to light, escalating into a personal and professional showdown that leaves both of them forever changed.

The Creative Process: Katricia’s Perspective

When asked what her favorite part about acting is, Katricia shared her passion for the rehearsal process, saying:

“The rehearsal process is often where I feel most creatively alive. It’s the space where uncertainty is welcome and where choices can be tested without the pressure of outcome. I enjoy dissecting the script, particularly the subtext, asking why a line is said now and not earlier, or how a character’s objective is shifting moment to moment. During rehearsals or table reads, I often build timelines and emotional maps, not just for the character’s arc, but also for smaller, scene-specific shifts. I’ll note vocal patterns, silences, and moments of retraction. These tools help me move through the material like a musician through a score, understanding when to crescendo and when to hold back.”

Katricia added:

“Filming is rewarding in a different way. It’s about containment and precision. The energy shifts from exploration to execution. I’m very aware of how small the frame is, so I work internally and let the camera do the rest. That contrast between rehearsal and filming is fascinating to me.”

The Director Behind the Award-Winning Project: Jaymes Camery

Jaymes Camery, the director of “Lunchtime,” is an independent filmmaker, writer, and educator known for his insightful exploration of human relationships. With a background in both filmmaking and education, Camery’s passion and expertise brought “Lunchtime” to life. Raised on the East Coast, he completed his undergraduate studies at Virginia Tech and earned a Master of Fine Arts in Film Directing from the California Institute of the Arts.

Camery’s previous work includes “Guys and Girls Can’t Be Friends,” a feature film exploring platonic relationships, and “American Christmas,” which is available on Showtime and Amazon Prime. Beyond filmmaking, he is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of storytellers through teaching filmmaking and acting for the camera. Frankie Guerrero is also another key filmmaker involved with the making of Lunchtime.
